Do you see there where you actually assert that what same sex couples have is in fact marriage? Thats actually whats in dispute. You need to come to terms with the fact that - even though you say they are mistaken - the opponents of same-sex marriage are claiming that in fact such unions ARE not marriage and that is why the state should not recognise them as marriage. This is where the debate differs from that about interracial marriage.

I agree that opinions clash. And when they do, we naturally adjudicate between worldviews to decide which is morally superior. But what does that mean, really, if no worldview is morally superior?

Eatsrawfish, interesting note about Roddenberry pitching Star Trek via Wagon Train I never knew that. That series (ST, not WT) explored every core issue of morality I can think of, and I remain in awe of it and its creator. And when I saw it, it was in reruns every day after school talk about a massive daily dose of thought-provoking philosphical questions.

Im trying to say that NOONE knows enough about the beggining to refute your claims- and you dont know enough about it to make your claims, so why would I base my belief in that. I want it to be based on gods actions in history, not based on what he did or didnt do (or if he was or wasnt) in the beggining.

As for Tarsem, the only thing Ive seen of his is The Cell. I didnt care for it at all really. But thats all Ive seen, of course not like hes done much else; just The Fall and the upcoming Immortals that I know of. I may check out Immortals as I just enjoy Greek mythology stuff.

Hmm, maybe I should have been more specific. I dont think the idea that Star Wars is a Western is silly, but rather the idea that its NOT Sci-Fi is kind of silly and trying to force things too hard into a very constrained mold. Also, long discussions on film theory can get kind of silly anyway (or painful, have I mentioned hour long discussions of National Cinema?)

I think that a lot of our visual culture is being destroyed by these corporate tools that are so ever present in our lives. DIY flyers, signs, brochures and mailing labels all look the same because of the limitations and templates of that one word processor: Microsoft Word. Who hasnt seen rainbow coloured Word Art decorating a horribly laid out tri-fold pamphlet? How many times has a co-worker come up to me and begged me to show them how to do something as simple as layering one graphic over another for nicer visual effect and Ive had to take the file into Photoshop to do so? Word processors can stunt our visual possibilities, but often, they are the only tools of choice.

Really, I hate that word values. Its been hijacked by the political right wing and nutjob Christians to mean Christian beliefs, which isnt the case (of course).
